This part of the East Cape is very secluded and untouched and offers some excellent opportunities for perfect, warm and uncrowded surf. When you dream about journeying off on a surf adventure this is the type of place you dream about. On either side of Hacienda Soleada there are two surf breaks are ideal for beginners. For the more experienced, better surfing is available at the nearby Shipwrecks, Nine Palms, and Punta Perfecta. Not to mention, half the fun of surfing here is discovering new breaks !
FishingThe Sea of Cortez produces many species of fish consistently year round, which is what makes fishing in the Cape so popular. The relatively calm seas and very close proximity of glamour fish to shore make the Sea of Cortez a very special place where your fishing dreams can come true.
Hacienda Soleada sits near the gateway to Gorda Banks, an
excellent sportfishing area. May and June in the spring, and October and November
in the fall, are the peak times for fishing in the East Cape area for most
species, the summer fishing season finds large blue marlin and black marlin
feeding on dorado.
The majority of the coastline around Hacienda Soleada tends to be relatively calm during winter and spring, and perfect for kayaking! Scenery alternates from beautiful sandy beaches, to occasional rocky bluffs, and the water tends to be very clear most of the year.
Good snorkeling can be found in many of the little bays and inlets surrounding Hacienda Soleada, which also provide some excellent diving opportunities. Nearby Gorda Banks offers challenging diving for strong, advanced divers only. The summit of the banks lies eight miles off shore in 110 to 140 feet of water which plays host to manta rays, hammerheads, gamefish, bullsharks and even whale sharks.
A short drive away is Cabo Pulmo, the only living coral reef on the west coast of North America.
Of 11 whale species found worldwide, eight head to the waters of Los Cabos and the East Cape, from late November through March. Breeding grounds are mostly on the Pacific side, but some travel to the Sea of Cortez for some wonderful viewing opportunities.
A journey and tour in the back roads of Baja by jeep or ATV is an experience worth writing home about!
